    • Promoting Equality and Diversity
      • enable all staff and students to develop to their full potential
      • ensuring equal access to opportunities to enable students to fully participate in the learning process
      • Services should be made accessible to all
        • wheelchair ramps, lifts, information available in different languages, efforts should be made by services to challenge cultural and social stigmas which may deter people from accessing services
      • In childcare settings, story books should have a range of different types of people in with different abilities, races and religions.
        • Dolls to play with should have different skin tones to promote diversity
        • Displays in health care settings and health campaigns should show a variety of races, genders, ages and abilities
      • In schools all children should be provided with the necessary equipment/resources so that they can access the same opportunities as their peers
        • For example: children who are less able and can't communicate verbally should be given the opportunity to communicate using makaton/ BSL etc. if suitable.
          • Similarly, with individuals who struggle to communicate practitioners should try to use other methods in order to seek their views and opinions especially concerning their care, e.g. using pictures or computer software.
      • There should be a mixture of care staff: different genders, ages, races etc.
      • Policies should be in place in line with the Equality Act 2010
    • Promoting Individual Rights and Beliefs
      • Displays in nurseries, schools etc. should show a variety of different cultural celebrations such as Eid, Hanukkah etc.
      • Right to dignity, confidentialityand independence should always be respected
        • Right to refuse care should be respected
      • Everyone should be treated as individuals
      • Providing prayer rooms and different menu options
        • Care should be able to fit around individuals who pray at a certain time each day etc.
      • respect and promote the views, choices and wishes of individuals, key people andothers
      • provide active support to enable individuals to participate and to manage their ownlives as much as they are able
      • Anti-discrimminatory practice
        • There should be an anti-discrimination policy in place
        • Individuals should be protected from harassment and abuse when being cared for, there should be policies in place to ensure this
      • Person-centered care should be provided
      • Human Rights Act 1998
      • Choice should be provided where possible
      • An individual should be allowed to be referred to by their preferred name
    • Maintaining Confidentiality
      • Keeping private information securely stored
        • Locked filing cabinets, office doors locked, encrypted computers, password protected
      • "Need to know basis"
      • Meetings discussing private information or phone calls should be done in private where others cannot hear
      • Don't gossip
      • Confidentiality should only be broken when: An individual may harm themselves, someone else or is going to commit a crime
      • An individual's right to the objection of sharing their information (e.g. for training/ learning purposes) should be respected
      • Organisations should put policies and procedures in place to ensure that  the confidentiality rules are followed
      • Practitioners should log out of their computers if they store confidential documents
      • Dispose of  confidential information that is no longer needed securely e.g. shredding.
      • Data Protection Act 1998
