- Brain
- Diencephalon- contains thalamus- relays nerve impulses from senses to appropriate parts of the brain and hypothalamus regulates body temp. hunger, thirst, endocrine system
- cerebrum- largest part of the brain- further divided into four lobes
- frontal lobe- invovled in speech production ans thought (Broca's area)
- occipital lobes ( back of the cerebrum) involved in visual images
- temporal lobe-The temporal lobe is involved in vision, memory, sensory input, language, emotion, and comprehension.
- parietal lobe- t functions in processing sensory information regarding the location of parts of the body as well as interpreting visual information and processing language and mathematics.
- divided into two halves left hemisphere (Broca & Wernicke's) and right hemisphere
- both halves communicate through the corpus callosum
- Cerrebellum- controls persons motor skills and balance, coordinates muscles and allows precise movements
- brain stem- regulates automatic functions e.g heart rate, breathing, swallowing.
- motor and sensory neurons travel through the brain stem allowing impulses to pass between brain and spinal cord
