Psychodynamic Approach: Do dreams have a meaning?

Ø  Some people claim they don’t have dreams, others that they don’t remember their dreams and people that claim they dream often and always.

Ø  Dreams are measured by rapid eye movements (REM): suggests everyone dreams

Ø   5 periods of REM sleep a night

Ø  REM sleep is important as this is when the parts of the brain associated with memory are active

Ø  Those who have been deprived of dream sleep are known to have behavioural problems or permanent neurological problems

Ø  REM sleep is vital
