- 1) Attention learning takes place when a child focuses their attention on a person who "models" the behaviour
- 2) Retention What has been observed is retained in the child's memory to be used when an opportunity occurs
- 3) reproduction What has been learned is reproduced it may be rehearsed in the child's mind first and then imitated at a later stage when there is an opportunity
- 4) Motivation children feel more motivated because they anticipate intrinsic or extrinsic rewards. Children will be motivated to repeat or cease the behaviour depending on intrinsic or extrinsic reinforcement

- Bobo doll experiment
- Children where shown adults being aggressive and non-aggressive to a bobo doll. The agressive adults where either rewarded, reprimanded or had no consequence for their behaviour
- Experiment was used to show that children would copy the aggressive as they thought it was the right thing to do.
- This experiment how ever does not show long term effects on the children
