    • Causes
      • Secondary pollutant - from reactions involving pollutants released by human activities
      • Nitrogen dioxide broken down by UVA (photochemical reaction)
        • Monatomic oxygen reacts with diatomic oxygen to make ozone
    • Effects
      • Toxic to plants = reduces growth rate in trees/crops
      • Breathing difficulties - lead to increased cases of asthma and can be fatal
    • Control
      • Reduce levels of primary pollutants e.g. nitrogen dioxide in vehicle exhausts
