  • AC1.3- Unrecorded crime
    • definition: just because a crime has been reported doesnt mean it is recorded by the police and this can be due to a number of reasons such as/ not enough evidence, victim refuses to press charges, its trivial, not believed
    • example: thames valley found that 1/5 offences not recorded properly which equates to 35,200 crimes a year
    • stats: 90% of crimes get reported on average but might not get reported
    • negative consequence: victims will feel they are not getting justice or are being herd so will be less inclined to report in future, criminals might commit more crimes as they wont be prosecuted
    • positive consequence: police wont waste time and resources as they screen the cases they want to follow up
