The Orthodox School of Thought
The Cold War as a product of the agressive and expansionist agenda of the USSR. Many American and Western European politicians and scholars agreed with this view. It was a result of the mood then and it blames Stalin, without looking at defence needs

The Revisionist School of Thought
It was a result of the provocative actions of the US, emphasis on US aggression whilst trying for economic dominance- moved by failure in Vietnam, see USSR actions as defensive

The Post-Revisionist School of Thought
Moves away from the question of blame, they were from a different generation and do not have personal opinions on the early events of the war and focus more a mixture of ideas, instead of one single cause
