Hindley's son Hareton is born and Frances dies. Catherine is shown to be violent toward her staff and husband.

Tweleve years pass in which Nelly describes relative happiness. Isabella begs for Edgar to fetch Linton from her deathbed.

A year later, Lockwood returns, finding domestic bliss at the Grange. catherine has befriended Hareton.

Nelly returns to the Heights, and sees it has become delapidated, much like her and Hareton's relationship.

Cathy is told that Linton is dying of a broken heart, and that she must stop correspondence. She sets out to see Linton again.
Chapter Eight, Volume Two

Nelly nurses Catherine. Hindley dies, leaving all his debts to Heathcliff. Isabella flees.
Chapter Three, Volume Two

Chapter Fourteen, Volume One
Nelly sees Isabella, but Edgar wants nothing to do with her. Lockwood warns himself not to fall in love with Catherine incase she is like her mother.

Cathy is nursed by Edgar, and she begins to improve. Isabella returns with Heathcliff, and begs for reconciliation with her family. She alludes to being battered.
Chapter Thirteen, Volume One

Chapter Five, Volume Two
Isabella dies and Edgar returns from the south with Linton. He goes to live with heathcliff at his demand.

Chapter Twelve, Volume One
Cathy's health is bad, but Edgar is kept in the dark until the very end. Isabella's dog is hung from a tree, and Isabella and Heathcliff elope.

Lockwood takes narrative as Nelly. Heathcliff sees that Cathy will die, and despairs. She faints in his arms and he leaves.

Chapter Ten, Volume Two
Nelly is well again, and catherine finds her self being with Linton out of duty. Hareton is made fun of for his education. Edgar invites Linton to the Grange.

Cathy and Linton meet on the moor, and she is alarmed at his health, yet keep it from Edgar
Chapter Twelve, Volume Two

Catherine is born, and Cathy dies. Heathcliff is distraught. Hindley is invited to the funeral but Isabella is not.

When Edgar is away, Catherine explores the moors and discovers her other family. She is horrified and Nelly tells her not to tell her father.

Linton is taken to WH, but kept secret from Catherine. On her sixteenth birthday, she goes to the heights where she sees Linton and recognises revenge in Heathcliff's plan.

Linton is more peevish than before, and quarrels with Catherine about the nature of marriage. Catherine returns without any supervision

Chapter 13, Volume Two
Linton, Catherine and Nelly argue again on the moors. She is lured back to the heights, and held their until her marriage in the morning.

We see Heathcliffs bizzarre death in retrospect.

Chapter Eleven, Volume Two
Coming to the present, Lockwood denies interest in Catherine. Edgar gets to know Linton to ensure Catherine's future. Linton is dying, but this is kept from everyone.

Chapter Fourteen, Volume Two
Nelly returns to the grange, where Edgar is barely alive. Catherine has married Linton. Edgar changes his will, but the lawyer is bribed by Heathcliff to ignore the changes

Cathy remains at the Grange after the funeral. Heathcliff arrives and demand Catherine returns to the Heights. He wants to be buried in the same place as Cathy.
Chapter Fifteen, Volume Two

Linton finally dies, and Catherine befriends the staff, including Hareton.

Hareton and Catherine plan to marry, and Heathcliff is married.

Lockwood takes a note to Catherine from Nelly, and terminates his tenancy.
