Unit 3: Anataomy & Physiology

?
What is respiration?
This is when cells absorb oxygen to produce energy and heat.
1 of 8
What happens when cells grow?
They reach maturity by manufacturing proteins. They then divide or specialise.
2 of 8
What is the function of the cell membrane?
To allow substances to move in and out of cell.
3 of 8
What does the nucleus do?
This is the control centre of the cell and it regulates the cell's functions.
4 of 8
What are mitochondria?
These are found in the cytoplasm and supply the energy needed by the cell.
5 of 8
What is DNA?
DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) carries the cell's genes as chromosomes, these are instructions on making proteins and on cell function.
6 of 8
What are enzymes?
These are protein catalysts that allow metabolic reactions at low temps and are involved in cell functions such as growth, respiration and excretion.
7 of 8
How are proteins involved in all cell functions?
Proteins are molecules made up of amino acids and they help with all cell functions. For example they help metabolism by provding structural support and they act as enzymes, carriers and hormones.
