At what pressure does the HPSWM operate ?
Approximately 7Bar (100-120PSi)
1 of 9
List 7 uses for the HPSWM
Fire fighting systems
Pre-wet
Bilge and eductor pumps
Emergency cooling to main propulsion
Auxiliary machinery cooling
Making of fresh water
Flushing heads(N/A type 23/45)
2 of 9
Describe the salt water main.
A ring of pipe work, running around 2 deck that can be sub-divided by the use of isolation valves.
3 of 9
What is the minimum amount of pumps required to run the HPSWM ?
1 pump however the rest remain is a stand-by state
4 of 9
What is the purpose of the leak off valve ?
To prevent over pressurisation of the HPSWM system it runs at 10% of the system pressure.
5 of 9
Where and what are sprays used for ?
They are fitted in magazine rooms, paint lockers, inflam stores and funnels to fight fires.
6 of 9
What is the pre-wet system used for ?
Washes the upper deck after an NBC attack to clear it of contamination.
7 of 9
Describe what happens to the HPSWM when the ship is in DC state 1
All pumps are running
DC state 1 valves are closed
HPSWM isolated into zones
8 of 9
Describe what happens to the HPSWM when the ship is in DC state 3
1 Pump is running
Rest of the pumps are on stand by
All DC state valves are open
