What do the endocrine and nervous system do?
Regulate behaviour in response to the environment

Nervous system?
The nervous system is a specialised network of cells in the human body and is our primary internal communication system. consists of the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system.
2 of 15
Central nervous system?
consists of brain and spinal cord and is the origin of all complex commands and decisions.
3 of 15
Peripheral nervous system?
sends information to the CNS from the outside world and transmits messages from the CNS to muscles and glands in the body.
4 of 15
Somatic nervous system?
transmits information from receptor cells in the sense organs to the CNS. It also receives information from the CNS that directs muscles to act.

What does the autonomic nervous system do?
Transmits information to and from internal bodily organs, system operates involuntarily which makes it autonomic, it has two main divisions the sympathetic branch and the parasympathetic branch.
6 of 15
What are the functions of the nervous system?
To collect, process, and respond to information in the environment.
To co-ordinate the working of different organs and cells in the body.

What's the CNS made up of?
Brain and spinal cord
8 of 15
The brain?
Centre of all conscious awareness, brains outer layer the cerebral cortex is highly developed in humans and is what distinguishes us from animals.
9 of 15
What is the spinal cord?
extension of the brain, responsible for reflex actions such as pulling your hand away for a hot plate. Passes messages to and from the brain and connects nerves to PNS.
10 of 15
The peripheral nervous system
Transmits messages via millions of neurons, to and from the nervous system. Divided into two subdivisions.
Autonomic nervous system- which governs vital functions in the body such as breathing, heart rate, digestion, sexual arousal and stress response.

What does the somatic nervous system do?
Controls muscle movements and receives information from sensory receptors.
