What is the National Grid?
The system of wires and transformers that distributes electricity around the country
1 of 6
Where is the significant amount of energy wasted by heating?
In the transmission lines
2 of 6
What happens if the voltage of electricity passes through a wire is increased?
The current is decreased
3 of 6
Why is this useful in the national grid?
When the current is smaller, less energy is wasted by heating and the efficiency is improved.
4 of 6
What does a step-up transformer do?
Increases the voltage and decreases the current at the same time
5 of 6
What does a step-down transformer do?
Makes voltage lower the current higher
