What is a biome
A biome is a global scale ecosystem
2 of 16
Producers
Plants that convert energy from the sun for photosynthesis for growth.
3 of 16
Consumers
get their energy from eating producers creating direct links within food links and food webs
4 of 16
Decomposers
Dead plant and animal material that is broken down by bacteria and fungi to add nutrients to the soil
5 of 16
Nutrient cycling
The nutrients that the decomposers produce are taken by plants again.
6 of 16
A short term change to ecosystems
flooding increases amount of water and may kill plants
7 of 16
A long term change to ecosystems
deforestation kills animals and producers
8 of 16
where are most rainforests located
rainforests are mostly located on the equator
9 of 16
properties of tropical rainforest
high temperatures and heavy rainfall, ideal conditions for vegetation quarter of the world's medicine originates here
10 of 16
properties of deserts
high daytime temperatures, low night time temperatures. very low rainfall.
11 of 16
name threats to malaysia's rainforests
logging mineral extraction commercial farming subsistence farming
12 of 16
PROS OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
jobs are created instead of rainforest being unused. Tax revenue used to supply public services Minerals are valuable and increases money in the economy. Improved transport infrastructure benfits development and tourism
13 of 16
CONS OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
Water pollution in a dry climate limits supplies. Fires pollute + destroy areas of valuable forest. Climate change could have large economic costs. Rainforest tourism could decrease.

Why should RF be protected
Biodiversity (contain more than 0.5 of the worlds PLNT + ANIML) Climate Change People (Indigenous tribles live SUSTNBLY) Medicine (25%) water(source of h2o)
15 of 16
