What are the types of waves in the EM spectrum?
Radiowaves, microwaves, infared waves, visible light, ultraviolet, X-rays, and gamma rays.
1 of 7
Where is ultraviolet found naturally?
Ultraviolet radiation - UV - is found naturally in sunlight.
2 of 7
What can microwaves be used for?
Microwave radiation can be used to transmit signals such as those for mobile phone calls.
3 of 7
How can white light be split up?
White light can be split up to form a spectrum using a prism.
4 of 7
Light waves are refracted as they enter and leave a prism. What colour is refracted the least and what is refracted the most?
Red light is refracted the least and violet light is refracted the most.
5 of 7
How can microwaves affect the body?
Microwaves can cause internal heating of body tissues.
6 of 7
How can X-rays and gamma rays affect the body?
X-rays damage cells causing mutations (which may lead to cancer) and cell death. Gamma rays also damage cells causing mutations and cell death.
