1. It creates a sense of fear for surrounding countries. 2. Worldwide dominance E.g. 48% of all military spending is done by the USA which means they have troops in every continent except Antarctica. 3. Nuclear weapons - indicates power.

1. The worlds economy is dominated by the USA making it an all round superpower, 8 of the top 10 biggest companies are based in the USA. 2. Globalisation has led to emerging economies becoming economic superpowers.

How do resources affect superpower status?
1.As countries become energy insecure the power of 'energy superpowers' will grow. E.g. Russia, Qatar and Iran have 60% of gas supplies. 2. The USA's industrial revolution was due to having the largest coal supply in the world.
