Connection between 2 hemispheres?
Corpus Callosum = thick bundle of nerve fibres allowing quick communication between both sides.
1 of 7
Contralateral?
each hemisphere controls op. sides of body.
2 of 7
right side of brain deals with (and vice versa but language centres as well)?
visual information in left visual field taken from optic nerves of both eyes
3 of 7
Sperry- 1968
-research study on 11 patients who had corpus callosum cut to treat epilepsy.
-also key, saw words in visual fields. key- left= can say key but saw-right- can't speak but can draw a saw with left hand.
- suggests hemispheres are both capable of acting in
4 of 7
Gazzangina- 1983- facial recognition
variation of Sperry's research
faces shown to right hemisphere we're recognised.
shows RH= better at recognising faces

Split brains?
cutting corpus callosum. reduces epileptic symptoms and few side effects but unusual behaviour and sense of loss of agency led to research.
6 of 7
Evaluation of Sperry's research.
- small sample size and had varying amounts of connection cut and all undergone drug therapy. suggests some results may be due to participant variables making results ungeneralisable to wider population.
-the experimental procedure is unlike how individua
