Permanent magnets
Produce their own magnetic field
1 of 11
Induced magnets
Magnetic materials that turn into a magnet when they're put into a magnetic field. The force between permanent and induced magnets is always attractive.
2 of 11
A current flowing through a wire creates a
Magnetic field around the wire. The field is made up of concentri circles perpendicular to the wire.
3 of 11
A solenoid is a coil of wire.
The strenght of the magnetic field can be increased by wrapping thw ire into a coil called a solenoid. This results in lots of field lines poitning in the same direction very close together.
4 of 11
An electromagnet is
A magnet whose magnetic field can be turned on and off with an electric current.
5 of 11
Cutting field lines induces a
Potential difference, and a current if the conductor is art of a complete circuit.
6 of 11
Induced current always
Opposes the change that made it.
7 of 11
Alternators
Generate alternating current
8 of 11
Dynamos
Generate direct current
9 of 11
Microphones
Generate current from sound waves.
10 of 11
Transformers change the Potential difference
but only for alternating current.
