Why do Christians worship?
They worship as it helps them feel closer to God and establish a personal relationship with Him. They are comforted to the fact that God is always listening and will answer to prayers that He thinks will do good.

What is liturgical worship?
usually following an agreed form of words, e.g. the service book

What is non-liturgical worship?
although the service will have a clear structure, there will be no, or very few, set words other than the words to songs

quiet worship alone, e.g. in a person's home

What is a denomination?
the name given to the main groups within the church

What does the Book of common prayer contain?
Prayers and services, baptism, wedding and funeral services, the creeds, etc.

What is a sacrament?
an important Christian ceremony

What are the seven sacraments?
baptism, reconciliation, the Eucharist, confirmation, the anointing of the sick, holy orders and marriage

Why are sacraments important?
They are seen as outward signs of inward blessings//They are signs of God's love

What do Catholic and Orthodox churches believe about the seven sacraments?
They believe that all seven sacraments are vital parts of being a Christian

The 39 Articles state that baptism and the Eucharist are the only two sacraments authorised by God

What is baptism?
leaving behind sin and entering a new life

What is the Eucharist and what does it represent?
It is a service representing the Last Supper. It celebrates the sacrificial death and resurrection of Jesus, using elements of bread and wine.

Why are set prayers important?
they bring a sense of community when done together

Why are informal prayers important?
led by Holy Spirit; it reinforces a personal relationship with God

What is the purpose of a pilgrimage?
To think about a particular event (e.g. bereavement); for physical or spiritual healing; to ask for and earn forgiveness

it's a time to remember and give thanks for the most important events in their faith

the last days of Jesus' life

it proves that death can be defeated and there's eternal life

a candle is lit every Sunday to remember the 'light' of Jesus that is about to come into the world

Why is Christmas important?
a time to remember that when Jesus was born, God became human - allowed God to save humanity from sin; family and community brought together

What is the difference of Missionary and evangelistic work?
Missionary work is when people spreads Christian teachings/values (usually abroad) and converts them; whereas evangelistic work is about people who preach the bible to attract new believers (can be abroad or at home)

What is the purpose of missionary work?
inviting non-Christians to convert to Christianity; spreading the teachings of Jesus; providing sanitation and clean water

Why is missionary work abroad criticised?
it might spread different values and cultures; In a multicultural society, trying to convert others might be seen as a form of discrimination; could be accused of using natural disasters to 'convert' those who are suffering

What is the purpose of evangelistic work?
preaching the gospel; explaining the teachings of Jesus; warning people about the consequences of sin

it enables Christians to obey the Great Commission of Jesus; it can help the poor and suffering to have hope; keeps the Christian message alive and relevant to life today

a community of local believers within a particular denomination

a movement that tries to bring Christian denominations closer together

when one can't practice their faith as they're being targeted by it

Why do Christians give charity?
Christians believe everything comes from and belongs to God. Therefore they should be thankful for what they have and share it with others

a teaching of Jesus which reminds Christians that helping the week is like helping Jesus and that people that do will be rewarded in heaven - those who don’t go to hell
