Clues
- Aims to show the place to be of high importance, using methods to turn people's attentions to them. Visitors should feel as if in the presence of God. (Example: mountain tops can contain temples, the east end of churches, includes religious imagery) (5, 2, 9)
- Images represent objects of worship/tell stories about them. This can involve symbols for deities, and cult images - a way to identify a site. (Nefertari's tomb, Valley of the Queens, Thebes) (3, 3, 11)
- The burnt remains of a corpse are collected and buried in an urn or pot (Example: Romans and Anglo-Saxons) (9)
- The deceased body's left outside for birds and other animals to eat it, after the flesh has been taken, the bones are collected and buried. (Example: Native Americans, Neolithic Britain - longbarrows, possibly Seahenge)) (11)
- The idea that people are made up of 'the body' and 'the spirit' - the spirit living on after death taking an interest in the living (example: Maya of Central America) (16, 4)
- the idea that the living share the world with animals, plants, people, mountains, springs etc (Example: Native Americans) (7)
