What is a rate?
Reactants are used up and products are formed. The speed of a chemical reaction is a measure of how quickly reactants are used up or products form.
1 of 7
Give a example of a fast reaction
Explosions.
2 of 7
Give an example of a slow reaction
Corrosion.
3 of 7
What factors affect the rate (speed) of a chemical reaction?
Particle size, concentration, temperature and using catalists.
4 of 7
Explain collision theory
In order for a chemical reaction to occur particles must be able to collide with enough energy to form a new substance.
5 of 7
How does particle size affect the rate reaction?
By decreasing the particle size, you are creating more surface area, this means there will be more collisions per second and therefore a faster reaction.
6 of 7
How does concentration affect the rate of reaction?
Increasing the concentration has the effect of increasing the rate. this is because there are more particles present, meaning they are more likely to collide with each other.
