How does the play start?
Everyone is gathered with Mr Birling seated at one side, Mrs Birling seated at the opposite side, Gerald + Sheila seated together, and Eric seated alone.

Why are the Birling family gathered together and Gerald?
It is Sheila and Gerald's engagement party and so they are happy, joking together, and having dinner.

What does Mr Birling do when Eric and Gerald are there?
Mr Birling talks about business to Eric and Gerald and say "a man has to make his own way-look after himself."

That a girl had committed suicide by drinking a strong disinfectant.

That she got Sheila fired from the shop Milwards by telling the owner that she didn't to see Eva there unless she herself will never shop there again.
