Leptons General
Fundamental particles. Interact through weak interaction. Interact through electromagnetic if charged. Lepton number must be conserved. 3 types of Lepton as well as 3 neutrino types and anti-particle of all 6.
1 of 21
Lepton (Electron)
Most stable lepton, all other decay into electrons. Charge = -1. Lepton(e) = 1. Lepton(t+m)=0
2 of 21
Lepton (Muon)
Decays into electron. Charge = -1. Lepton(m) = 1. Lepton(e/t) = 0
3 of 21
Lepton (Tauon)
Decays into electron. Charge =-1. Lepton(t) = 1. Lepton(e/m) = 0
4 of 21
Lepton (Anti-particles)
Antiparticle of Leptons have opposite charge(+1). Also have negative Lepton number(-1 instead of 1)
5 of 21
Lepton (Neutrino)
Neutrino is always associated with its lepton. Charge = 0. Same Lepton numbers as its Lepton e.g. electron neutrino is: L(e)=1.L(m/t)=0
6 of 21
Lepton(Anti-particle Neutrino)
Neutrino is always associated with its lepton. Charge = 0. Same Lepton numbers as its Lepton e.g. positron neutrino is: L(e)=-1.L(m/t)=0

Quarks General
Fundamental particles. Can't exist in isolation Quarks make matter and anti-quarks anti-matter. 3 types: Up(u), Down(d), Strange(s)
8 of 21
Quarks (Up)
Symbol = u. Charge = +2/3. Strangeness = 0
9 of 21
Quark (Down)
Symbol = d. Charge = -1/3. Strangeness = 0
10 of 21
Quark (Strange)
Symbol = s. Charge = -1/3. Strangeness = -1. Strange particles produced through strong interaction, decay through weak. Strangeness must be conserved in strong intera. not in weak
11 of 21
Quark (Anti-Quark)
Symbols u̅ d̅ s̅. Opposite charge -2/3 ,+1/3,+1/3. Opposite Strangeness 0,0,+1 respectively

Hadrons
Not fundamental particles. Made up of quarks. 2 Groups: Baryons(3 Quarks),Mesons(Quark-Antiquark pair). Interact through Strong nuclear force, electromagnetic if charged. Decay through weak
13 of 21
Baryons General
Are Hadrons. Made of 3 quarks. Not leptons so Lepton number is 0. Baryon Number is conserved
14 of 21
Baryon (Proton)
The only stable baryon.Other baryons decay into protons.Symbol = P. Charge = +1. Baryon Number = 1. Quark Structure = uud. Quark Charge = (+2/3)+(+2/3)+(-1/3) = 1
15 of 21
Baryon (Neutron)
Symbol = N. Charge = 0. Baryon Number = 1. Quark Structure = udd. Quark Charge = (+2/3)+(-1/3)+(-1/3) = 0
16 of 21
Baryon (Anti-proton)
Symbol = P̅̅. Charge = -1. Baryon Number = -1. Quark Structure =u̅ d̅ d̅. Quark Charge = (-2/3)+(-2/3)+(+1/3) = -1

Meson General
Hadrons. Quark-Antiquark pair. Need to know about π and Κ mesons. Formed by high energy cosmic rays hitting the atmosphere. Discovered using cloud chambers. All mesons are unstable. Last around 10^(-8) seconds. See diagram for structure etc.
