blood, blood vessels and the heart
1 of 13
what is stroke volume?

2 of 13
what is cardiac output?
the amount of blood pumped out of the heart per minute
3 of 13
what is systolic blood pressure?
the pressure in your blood vessels when your heart is contracting
4 of 13
what is diastolic blood pressure?
the pressure in your blood vessels between beats (when your heart is resting)
5 of 13
what is heart rate?
the number of time the heart beat per minute
6 of 13
what is the role of the cardiovascular system?
transport oxygen and blood to the working muscles, remove waste products (carbon-dioxide), return blood to the lungs for oxygenation
7 of 13
what are the two main long term effects from regular exercise on the cardiovascular system?
cardiac hypertrophy (the growth in strength and size if the heart), increase in stroke volume
8 of 13
name some long term effects of regular exercise on the cardiovascular system?
lower resting heart rate, increased maximum cardiac output, quicker recovery heart rate, increased number of red blood cells
9 of 13
what are the two types of cholesterol?
HDL (high density lipoprotein) and LDL (low density lipoprotein)
10 of 13
what does HDL do?
HDL is the good cholesterol that breaks down and gets rid of LDL. HDL foods include beans, nuts, fatty fish, whole grains etc.

12 of 13
