What is child directed speech?
These are speech patterns used by parents/care-givers when communicating with young children, particulary infants. Usually involves simplified vocab, melodic pitch, repetitive questionning and a slow tempo.

Speech patterns used to communicate to a child.

What is LASS and who came up with it?
Language Acquisition Support System. Bruner suggested this, refers to the child's interaction with the adults around them and how this interaction supports lang development.

Repetition : Higher pitch : Use of name over pronouns : Present tense : One-word utterances : Fewer verbs used : Interrogatives : Exaggerated pauses giving turn-taking cues.

They investigated a mother and child's interaction. Stated that children whose mothers talk to them more have more extensive vocabularies.
