Observational design

?
How a researcher would plan an observation
Use observational design
1 of 8
What is event sampling
A target behaviour that is first established then the researcher records event every time it occurs.
2 of 8
What is time sampling
Recording a behaviour in a fixed time frame once a target behaviour is established
3 of 8
What is inter- observer reliability
single observers may miss details or may only notice events which confirm their aim or hypothesis, this can cause bias. To make data recording more objective and unbiased observations should be carried out by at least two researchers
4 of 8
What is vital about inter observer reliability
that the pair is consistent in their judgements and the data they record is similar and accurate
5 of 8
Explain the steps used in inter observer reliability
Familiarise themselves switch the behavioural categories, observe the same behaviour at the same time like in a pilot study. Observers should compare their data to make sure its consistent, analyse the data anc check for correlations
6 of 8
What is an unstructured interview
Writing down everything, rich detail, appropriate when investigations are small scale and have lil participants
7 of 8
What is a structured interview
predetermined list of behaviour and sampling methods, might have to categorise the behaviours in the playground etc,
