What are non-woven fabrics made from?
Made directly from fibre and not yarn.

Felting or bonding

Describe the process of wool felting
Uses natural ability of wool to matt and felt.

What is required for felting?
Heat, moisture and friction.

Describe the properties of felt
No strength, drape or elasticity. Does not fray and is warm.

How is needle felt made?
Stabbed with barbed needles to tangle fibres.

Describe woven/knitted felt
Woven or knitted then felted and shrunk using heat and moisture.

Describe needled punched bonded fabric
Punched with barbed needles and tangled.

What is thermo bonded fabric
Used on thermoplastic fibres, fused permanently.

Describe stitch bonded fabric
Fibres held together by visible stitches.

What is adhesive/solvent bonded fabric
Held together by glue or solvent which is dipped or sprayed onto fibres.

Describe hydro-entangled needle felt
Staple fibres are entangled in a web with high-pressure water jets.
