Describe how the nervous system works
Receptors detect a stimulus and send impulses along sensory neurons to the CNS. The CNS coordinates the information and sends impulses along motor neurons to the effectors, which bring about a response.

What is an effector?
An effector is any part of the body that produces a response to a stimulus. A muscle or gland.

How do synapses work?

What is a reflex action?
Reflex actions are rapid and happen without us thinking. For example, you would pull your hand away from a hot flame without thinking about it.
6 of 17
How does the reflex arc work?
stimulus → receptor → sensory neurone → relay neurone → motor neurone → effector
