How did scientist find out whether oxygen released from plants came from CO2 or H2O

CO2 had normal Oxygen-16 and they supplied water with Oxygen-18 and they found Oxygen-18 in the oxygen released from the plant showing it came from water

What is the pattern of diffusion of CO2 and O2 at day and night

in the day CO2 diffuses in to replace the ones lost from photosynthesis and O2 diffuses out as a waste product of photosynthesis. at night no photosynthesis happens so CO2 diffuses out and O2 diffuses in.
