Methods on animals.

?
What are the 3 main models used on animals?
Recording, stimulation and lesions.
1 of 9
What is the recording model?
It is when very small electrodes are implanted into the axon (intracellular) or the outside of the axon (extracellular)
2 of 9
What is the stimulation model?
this will manually stimulate the areas.
3 of 9
What is the lesions model?
Substances are injected into the brain to cause temporary or permanent damage to certain areas.
4 of 9
What is a benefit of animal testing?
You are able to be a lot more invasive than with humans.
5 of 9
What are two main methods used?
Intracellular recordings and behavioural paradigms.
6 of 9
What are intracellular recordings?
Electrocorticography (EcoG) allows recordings directly from the surface and activity can be collected when certain tasks are performed.
7 of 9
What are behavioural paradigms?
there might be a spike in certain areas of the brain when they are rewarded, and after a while even in the absence of reward their memory still causes that activity to spike.
8 of 9
What might behavioural paradigms suggest?
That we have an inner GPS which is even present in humans.
