What are the resonators
Pharyngeal resonator, Oral resonator, Nasal resonator and Head and Chest resonators
1 of 16
How does the pharynx make a note
This long muscular tube which extends upwards from the larynx, ending at the back part of the oral and nasal cavities. It is the first resanting space through which the note must pass on its way to the mouth and nose.
2 of 16
What are the dependant factors of the pharynx
The Pharynx can change its shape and size, which affects the quality of the sound produced. It increases in size during a yawn and decreases in size when the throat or neck is tense.
3 of 16
What are the different parts of the oral resonator
Lower jaw; tongue; lips; hard palate and soft palate
4 of 16
How does the lower jaw work
Forms the floor of the oral resonator and is attached to the facial bones by the hinge joints
5 of 16
How does the tongue work
Lies on the floor of the oral resonator, rooted in the front of the pharynx. Cpable of intricate and rapid movements
6 of 16
Where do the movements of the tongue lie
The tip (point of the tongue), the blade (underneath the tooth ridge), the front (underneath the hard palate), the centre (partly underneath the hard palate and partly underneath the soft palate) and the back (underneath the soft palate)
7 of 16
How do the lips work
Forms the exit of the oral resonator at the free edges of mouth and grip, direct and shape the breath stream
8 of 16
How does the hard palate work
An arche bone structure, sperator the oral cavityfrom the nasal cavities, forming the roof of the mouth
9 of 16
How does the soft palate structured
The back third of the roof of the mouth, continuing from the curve of the hard palate. The back edge is free and can move up or down. Its movement controlsthe flow of air through the nose or mouth, like a trap door.
10 of 16
How does the soft palate work
When breathing naturally though thenose, the soft palate is relaxed and droops down into the mouth, which leaves the passage to the nose free. When there is an impulse to speak, the soft palate contracts upwards.
11 of 16
How does the nasal resonator make sounds 'm', 'n' and 'ng'
The vibrating column of air passes directly through the open soft palate to the nasal cavity
12 of 16
How does the nasal cavity help make vowel sounds
Virbrating column of air doesn't pass directly into the nasal cavity, but instead pitches onto the hard palate behind the upper teeth. These vibrations pass through the bones of the hard palate into the nasal cavities
13 of 16
What is good resonance dependant on
Balancing the three resonators from the Pharynx, Mouth and Nose. The quality will be affected if just one has too much resonance.
14 of 16
What should you do to practise your resonance
Spine is lengthened; shoulders, neck and jaw are free from tension; space inside the mouth and adequate breath force. Try not to think about all this . I tmust come naturally.
15 of 16
What is head and chest resonance
You can feel vebrations in different parts of the body. Lower notes in the chest and higher notes in the head. Though they aren't official resonators becuase they are from the other resonators. Instead they are sometimes called seocndary resonators.
