What problems did Roosevelt have to solve by the 1936 election?
The Suopreme Court was challenging some New Deal laws and others were criticising him for not helping the poor enough.

Provided emergency short-term employment for unskilled workers. Funded community art projects and found work for 8 million people.

It was found to be an infringement of the rights of the individual states by the Supreme Court and therefore unlawful.

Tried to protect workers by confirming their rights to join trade unions?

Provided old-age pensions, unemployment benefits and financial support for handicapped. Funded by contributions from workers, employers and government.

Supreme Court found faults.

Replaced AAA. Helped poor farmers by purchasing equipment for them and resettled some of the poorest.

How successful was the New Deal?
Roosevelt's enormous popularity guranteed him victory in the 1936 election. He seemed to have overwhelming support for the New Deal. However, he quarelled with the Supreme Court and the Deal never really recovered.

By 1936 most of the achievements of the New Deal were in place.

The Wagner Act- it protected workers.

It was considered by some to be too like the systems in Germany and Russia.

What were some positive outcomes?
Social Security was American first system of social welfare. Support for homeowners was provided via loans to buy houses and reduce excessive rents.

How were farmers and labourers helped?
Farmers were helped by the Soil Conservation Act which replaced the banned AAA. Workers benefitted from fair labour standards , coconditions of work and a minimum wage.

Was Roosevelt happy with the Second New Deal?
It didn't deliver on all it;s promises-expectations had not been met and USA still had difficulties. The 2nd New Deal didn't go far enough for Roosevelt.
