When particles are heated up they are given energy. This causes them to vibrate. Energy can be passed from one particle to the next by particles bumping into each other. This is called conduction.

how does convection work
when a substance is heated it expands. This makes it less dense than it was causing it to rise. If it cools it will become more dense and go down. This rising and falling is known as convection current.
2 of 6
how does radiation work
when objects get hot they release invisible waves called infrared waves which allow heat to travel at the speed of light through vacuums.
3 of 6
what is an insulator
materials that are not good at transferring heat. e.g glass, wood, plastic
4 of 6
what are conductors
Materials that are very good at transferring heat. e.g metal
