What are the different types of Hazards?
Earthquakes, Volcanoes, Tropical Storms, Tsunamis, Tornadoes, Flooding, Drought, Hurricanes and Fires.

What is a Hazard?
A percieved natural event which has the potential to threaten both life and property. It can only become a hazard if our lives are at risk.

When does a Hazard become a disaster?
A hazard becomes a disaster when the hazard becomes reality. This could include deaths and destruction to goods/property and the environment.

What classes a hazard as a disaster?
A hazard is classed as a disaster when: 10+ people are killed, 100+ people are affected, A state of emergency is declared and International assistance is called for.

What are the three types of hazards?
Geophysical, Atmospheric and Hydrological.

What are three examples of Geophysical hazards?
Lava flows, Landslides and Lateral Spreading.

What are three examples of Atmospheric hazards?
Hurricanes, Hailstorms and Tornadoes.

What are two examples of Hydrological hazards?
Flooding and Storm Surges.

What is the definition of a Risk?
The probability of a hazard event occurring and creating loss of lives and livelihoods

What is the definition of Vulnerability?
How exposed you may be or how exposed an area may be. The tendency of place, group or society to incur losses to hazards.

What are the factors that influence vulnerability?
Poverty, falling political and economic power, population pressure, over exploitation of resources, dangerous locations, disease and hunger and war.
