Clues

  • An international treaty in 2009, resulting in the Copenhagen Accord, comitting countries to legally-binding targets on carbon emissions (following on from the earlier Kyoto Treaty) (10, 6)
  • Criminal cases that are considered too serious to be entirely prosecuted in a magistrates' court (known as indictable offences rather than summary offences) are tried at the Crown Court in front of judge and jury. (5, 5)
  • Once a piece of legislation has been approved by both houses of Parliament and has been signed by the Monarch (royal assent) it ceases to be a bill and becomes an Act of Parliament. (3)
  • Refers to a perspective that wishes to preserve things as they are or change things slowly (as opposed to radicalism that wants rapid change). Has evolved and now contains a range of ideas; traditional conservatism, one nation conservatism, etc.. (12)
  • Refers to crimes that are committed by companies/organisation. This might include fraud, insider trading, negligence, pollution. (9, 5)
  • This is a theory that attempts to explain why statistics suggest women commit fewer crimes than me. It suggests that (predominantly) male law enforcement officers may choose not to prosectue women offenders out of a sense of gentlemanliness! (8, 6)
