Primary Effects
Ash blocked out the sun, Rescuers wore face masks to prevent the from choking on ash. Homes and roads were damaged and services destroyed. Crops were damaged by ash. 100,000 flights were cancelled over 8 days. Total loses of £80million.

Secondary Effects
Sporting events were cancelled dues to cancelled flights. Fresh food imports stopped and industries we affected by lack of imported raw materials. Local water supplies were contaminated with fluoride. Flooding was caused as the glacier melted.

International Impacts
The eruption of EYJAFJALLAJOKULL caused a cloud of ash to spread eastwards towards Europe which cause many European airspaces to be closed down. People were stranded. Industrial production was affected as raw materials could not be flown in.
