Who was Mendel?
Gregor Mendel was a monk who worked out how characteristics were inherited. Mendel was the first person to suggest 'factors' could be inherited.

They are now called genes. Genes are found on chromosomes. They are short sections of DNA

What are chromosomes made of?
They are made of DNA which is a very long molecule with a double HELIX structure.

Every individual does, apart from identical twins. This unique DNA pattern is know as 'DNA FINGERPRINT'.
