- Gregor Mendel was a monk who worked out out how characteristics were inherited
- He was the first person to suggest the idea of sepeately inherited "factors"
- He wasnt accepted at first
- This was because scientists didn't know about chromosomes or genes
- Chromosomes are made of DNA Which is a very long molecule with a double helix structure
- Mendels factors are now called Genes
- Genes are found on chromosomes
- Genes are short sections of DNA
- Every individual , except identical twins , has different DNA
- This unique DNA Pattern can be used to identify people by their DNA Fingerprint
