  • Mendel to DNA
    • Gregor Mendel was a monk who worked out out how characteristics were inherited
    • He was the first person to suggest the idea of sepeately inherited "factors"
    • He wasnt accepted at first
      • This was because scientists didn't know about chromosomes or genes
    • Chromosomes are made of DNA Which is a very long molecule with a double helix structure
    • Mendels factors are  now called Genes
      • Genes are found on chromosomes
      • Genes are short sections of DNA
    • Every individual , except identical twins , has different DNA
      • This unique DNA Pattern can be used to identify people by their DNA Fingerprint
