Force
A push or pull on an object (in newtons).
1 of 13
Weight
The gravitational force of an object (in newtons).
2 of 13
Centre of mass
A point through which any externally applied force produces a straight line of motion, no rotation.
3 of 13
Centre of Gravity
An imaginary point at which the entire weight of an object appears to act.
4 of 13
Drag Force
The resistive force exerted by a fluid on an object moving through it.
5 of 13
Terminal Velocity
The constant speed reached by an object when drag force is equal to the weight of the object.
6 of 13
Moment
The product of the force and perpendicular distance from the pivot.
7 of 13
Principle of Moments
For a body in rotational equilibrium the sum of the anti-clockwise moments about a point is equal to the clockwise moments about the same point.
8 of 13
Torque
The product of one of the forces of a couple and the perpendicular distance between them.
9 of 13
Couple
A pair of equal and opposite forces acting on a body but not in the same straight line.
10 of 13
Fluids
A substance that can flow (liquids and gases).
11 of 13
Upthrust
The upward bouyant force exerted on a body immersed in water.
12 of 13
Archimedes' principle
The upthrust on an object in a fluid is equal to the weight of the fluid it displaces.
