Ethernet cable
it is the origional method for connecting computers. modern cable is often referred to as Cat5 or Cat5e - these are the standards that show it is a high quality cable. the cable is connected to the computers' network interface cards by plugs.

Wireless
wireless networks allow computers to communicate by radio or microwaves if they have wireless network cards installed. the speed of the transmission varies.

Powerline
it uses the existing mains power circuits in the house for data transmission. as most houses have plug sockets in every room. no new wiring is needed.

ISP (cost)
internet service provider. most ISPs have a monthly charge and they can vary widely for the same level of service. you will have to check if there is a set up cost and if a free wireless router is provided.

internet service provider. many ISPs allow server space for storing emails, files and even photos that can be shared with other users.

ADSL
broadband over copper telephone lines uses Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line technology. it allows much faster transmission speeds by using frequencies that are not used for voice calls.

a wireless router used to connect all the computers in a network to the modern.

wide area network - covers a large area.
