- A standard component is usually an individual part or component, manufactured in thousands or millions, to the same specification .For example is a steel bolt (8, 10)
- Aesthetics is the look of the product . For example the colour or the quality of the finish. (10)
- Anthropometrics is the study of the sizes of people in relation to products. For example, chairs used in schools need to be suitable for the average size of pupils in the schools (15)
- Ergonomics is the relationship between people and the products which they use. Ergonomics is considered with working out measurements that will help the designer design the product (10)
- Identify Phase , Design Phase, Optimise Phase , Validate Phase (7, 6, 5)
- Market Pull is when product ideas are produced in response to the market forces (6, 4)
- Mass Production , Batch Production and One Off production (6, 2, 10)
- Sustainibilty is how long a product can be used for a period oftime and this is important for designers as they think about the effect of their product on the enviroment (14)
- Technology Push is when products are redesigned because of the development in technology and changes in materials (10, 4)
- There are also separated standards for the European Union. If a product meets these standards it can be given a 'CE' mark (8, 5)
