LIGHTING
High-key / Low-key.

Low-key lighting is often
associated with film noir.
It can be either black &
white or colour.

EDITING
Film editing is the art, technique, and practice of assembling shots into a coherent whole.

It involves the selection and combining of shots into sequences, and ultimately creating
a finished film. It is an art of storytelling.

FORMS OF EDITING
Continuity Editing: Shots are cut together
‘seamlessly’ to create the illusion of continuous action.

Montage Editing: Has various purposes within
a film. The editing process is more obvious
to the viewer.

MISE-EN-SCENE
French: 'placed in the scene'.
All of the elements placed in front of the camera to be photographed: the settings and props, lighting, costumes and makeup, and figure behaviour.

Sound whose source is visible on-screen or whose source is implied to be present by the action of a film:
Character Voices, Sounds made by objects, Source Music (e.g. from instruments).

NON-DIEGETIC SOUND
Sound whose source is neither visible on screen nor has been implied to be present in the action:
Narrator's commentary, sound effects (for dramatic effect), mood music.
