inhibits Na+ channels; mechanisms not known but difficult dto D due to satural absorbtion; GABA uptake inhibitor.
inhibits excitory activity at monosynaptic and polysynaptic reflexes in spinal cord. selective against GABAb K+ channels, hyperpoolarization and presynaptic inhibition by a decrease in Ca++ influx
