Describe the global distributon of earthquakes
Plate boundaries, mainly destructive (convergent) and conservative. They can occur in the middle of plates. Tis is called intraplate.

What are the causes of an earthquake?
Sudden movement within the earth's crust where pressure builds up and causes the plates to move suddenly.

P Waves, S Waves and L Waves

What is the Hypocentre?
Where the pressure of the earthquake is released.

What is the epicentre?
The point on the earths surface which is directly above the hypocentre.

Name 3 secondary hazards as a result of an earthquake?
Liquefacation, Landslides and Tsunamis

What is liquefaction?
Where sesimic activity causes the ground to lose its shape and structure and become squidgy. Causes buildings to lose strength and collapse.

What is a landslide?
Where slopes are weakened due to seismic activity and slide due to gravity.

What is a Tsunami?
A sequence of huge waves created by a large displacemnt of sea water. Usually by an undersea earthquake.
