what is simplex transmission?
data sent in one direction

what is duplex transmission?
full duplex is data sent in both directions, half duplex is the same but it goes in only one direction at a time

what is the parity check?
all of the digits are added together and the eighth digit is added to ensure the byte is even (vis versa for odd parity check)

what is a check digit?
a calculation is performed on the set of data(barcode) and the check digit is added accordingly, the computer does the same calculation on the data it recives and uses that to check the end digit to avoid human error
