What's the difference between correlations and experiments?
Correlations look at the common relationship between two variables whereas an experiment tests the effect an IV has on a DV.

As one variable decreases another increases

There's no relationships

Correlation coefficient
A number that represents the type + strength of the relationship between the variables

What are some advantages of using correlations?
- Can be used when it's unethical or would be impractical to manipulate a variable in an experiment.

- Gives info about the extent of a relationship

- Gives us quantitative data which can be easily analysed

What are the disadvantages of using correlations?
- You cannot infer a C+E

- May be other unknown variables linking them
