Concurrent system
When the issues are being sorted in both houses and they are sorted seperatley and then go onto the confrence committee. For example the budget for the House and Senate in 2013.

Confrence committee
This is the stage after the concurrent committees where they are joined together and then the results are taken back to both the house and the senate to be approved.

Earmarking
When representatives only agree to sign a bill if they get money for their state froom federal funds. E.g. Paul Ryan earmarking led to a 2nd runway being built in local wisconsin airport.

Filibuster
When a senator tries to kill a bill by talking for so long that they cannot vote on it. E.g. Rand Paul often attempts to filibuster but is often unsuccesful. ONly overeturned by a cloture motion.

sequential committee
where a bill is made and approved in one house and then it is given to the other house. it bounces back and forth until both houses are agreed on it.

Select Committees
Small legislative committee appointed for a special purpose - e.g. senate budget committee.

Ratification of traties
Needs at 2/3 majority in the senate. For example the START treaty in 2010.

Pigeonholing
Because Committee chairs have the power to schedule when they discuss bills, they can effectively kill fo a bill by never scheduling a time to dbate it. ALso speaker has to introduce into house e.g. "we will not be stampeaded" Immigration bill 2013
