what is VoIP?
voice over internet protocol- set of rules for transmitting audio messages over the internet. It enables you to make free voice calls from your computer which can be used when travelling or used alongside a webcam to make video calls.

what is SMTP
Simple mail transfer protocol- used when an email is sent from the sender's email client to the sender's email server and when the email is delivered.

what is POP3
post office protocol- if POP3 is used to read the email then the mail server will download the email to the computer. it is then deleted from the server and can be read offline.

IMAP
internet message access protocol- the email is read on the mail server . The email is not deleted from the server and can be accessed anywhere using any computer with an internet connection.

HTTPS
similiar to HTTP( hypertext transfer protocol) however uses SSL( secure sockets layer). the data is encrypted and sometimes a green padlock icon appears.
