1 of 14
Participants?
228, all undergraduate students. volunteers received candy or single fee for participating in larger unrelated experiements.
2 of 14
How were the participants recruited in the study?
Via self-selected sampling.
3 of 14
outline the main materials used
4 videotypes (75 seconds duration)- showed 2 teams of 3 players (1 team=white shirts/ 1 team=black shirts). Orange basketball.
4 of 14

6 of 14
What were the 4 main conditions?
all p's gave informed consent. White, easy condition, White, hard condition , black, hard condition , black, easy condition.
7 of 14
What happened after the p's viewed the video tape?
write down their counts + answer questions+ asked whether they noticed any thing+ p's debriefed.
8 of 14
How many p's data was discarded + why?
36 p's -reported losing count of passes+already knew the phenomenon & experimental paradigm, their answer not clearly interpreted.
9 of 14
List 4 key results?
1) 192 p's=54% noticed unexpected even & 46% failed. 2) p's noticed the unexpected event more in opaque condition than transparent. 3) 33%-opaque condition failed to report event 4)more p's noticed event in easy condition (64%) than hard (45%)
10 of 14
List 2 conclusions?
1) inattention blindness occurs more frequent in superimposition as opposed to live action. 2)degree of inattention blindness depends on difficulty of task and is more likely when task is harder.
11 of 14
Conclusion?
3)p's more likely to notice unexpected events if these events are visually similar to the events they are paying attention to.
12 of 14
Conclusion?
4) Objects can pass through spatial area of attentional focus and still not be 'seen' if they are not specifically being attended to.
