They help explain why dementia patients lose their episodic memories in order from the most recent which makes the theory helpful and reliable

What conflicting evidence is there?
Squire and Zola found that the semantic and episodic memory are both in the temporal lobe meaning they may not actually be separate

Why can't it be the whole explanation?
Because it doesn't explain how the short term memory works so is less useful than other theories such as the MSM which acknowledges the full memory system
