Circulatory system is made up from..
The heart, blood and blood vessels
1 of 22
Where does oxygenation take place?
The lungs
2 of 22
What is Stroke Volume?
Stroke Volume is the volume, per heart beat, of blood pumped
3 of 22
What is Cardiac Output?
Cardiac Output is the amount of blood pumped by the heatr in 1 minute
4 of 22
The 3 types of blood vessels are...
Arteries, Capillaries and Veins
5 of 22
What is the main work of Capillaries?
Gaseous Exchange
6 of 22
What does blood consist of?
Plasma, white and red cells and platelets
7 of 22
Where is haemoglobin found?
It is found in the red blood cells
8 of 22
What are the 3 functions of the Circulatory system?
1) Transport 2)Tempreture Control 3)Protection
9 of 22
What is the main work of red blood cells?
To carry oxygen
10 of 22
Blood pressure is the force ...
of blood against artery walls
11 of 22
What are the 2 circulation systems called?
Systemic and Pulmonary
12 of 22
What is systemic?
Takes oxygenated blood from the left side of the heart around the body. When the blood returns to the right side of the heart it is deoxygenated as the oxygen has been used by the muscles and organs in order to make energy.
13 of 22
What is Pulmonary?
Takes Deoxygenated blood from the right side of the heart to the lungs where it can pick up more oxygen. It then returns this newly oxygenated blood to the left side of the heart, where the cycle begins again
14 of 22
Arteries carry blood ... and carry...
away from the heart, oxygenated blood
15 of 22
Veins carry blood ...and carry...
back to the heart, deoxygenated blood.
16 of 22
Veins contain...
valves
17 of 22
Capillaries travel..
deep inside muscle and organs to supply the nutrients and oxygen
18 of 22
What is the main work of white blood cells?
Fight against disease by using antibodies and antitoxins
19 of 22
What are platelets?
Fragments of cells which help blood clot at wounds
20 of 22
Name some factors that can affect blood pressure
Age - BP usually increases with age as artery walls get furred up decreasing space within them. Gender - Men often have a higher BP. Exercise - In the long term increase, short term decrease. Stress- Raises BP
21 of 22
What are the risks of having an increased BP?
Increases the risk of angina, heart attack and stroke.
